Crystal Rig Wind Farm – Innerwick, East Lothian

JSL Services Ltd is proud to support the delivery of the Crystal Rig Wind Farm project in Innerwick, East Lothian. This is a major renewable energy development helping Scotland achieve its net-zero ambitions. Crystal Rig is one of the UK’s longest established and most productive onshore wind farms, generating clean electricity for thousands of homes across the region.

Our work on this project is in partnership with principal contractor RJ McLeod, providing expert facilities, security, and site services to support the construction and operation of Crystal Rig IV.

About the Crystal Rig Wind Farm

Developed by Fred. Olsen Renewables, Crystal Rig Wind Farm Spans East Lothian, and the Scottish Borders. First commissioned in 2003, the site now comprises multiple phases and over 100 turbines, with a total generation capacity exceeding 260 MW, enough to power around 200,000 homes.

The current Crystal Rig IV phase involves 11 new turbines generating approximately 48 MW. This extension strengthens Scotland’s renewable energy infrastructure while delivering lasting economic, environmental, and community benefits.

JSL’s Role & Services on Crystal Rig IV

JSL Services Ltd provides comprehensive site support, including facilities, security, and access management. Our key services include:
  • Site facilities management and operational coordination
  • Security support, access control, and monitoring
  • Trained and licensed gatemen, ensuring safe and compliant entry for personnel, contractors, and delivery vehicles
  • Progressive CCTV deployment at each turbine as it is built, providing continuous surveillance during construction
  • Coordination with contractors, supply chain partners, and local stakeholders

Sustainable, AI‑Driven CCTV Solutions

As part of our technology-led approach, JSL deploys AI-driven, solar-powered CCTV units at each turbine during construction. These innovative systems:
  • Operate without client supply of mains electricity or internet
  • Provide 24/7 CCTV with AI-assisted analytics
  • Combine visual deterrence with proactive incident detection
  • Enable progressive site coverage, ensuring each turbine is monitored from the moment construction begins
  • Reduce environmental impact while maintaining high-level security
This turbine-by-turbine deployment ensures that the entire site and surrounding areas are secure, even as construction progresses across the dispersed wind farm.

Trained & SIA Licensed Gatemen

Complementing our technology solutions, our gatemen are fully trained and licensed, providing:
  • \Safe and controlled site entry for personnel, visitors, and deliveries
  • \Verification of contractors and subcontractors
  • \Enforcement of site safety and security protocols
  • \Liaison with security and management teams for smooth operations
By combining human oversight with AI-driven CCTV, JSL delivers a robust, reliable, and scalable security solution.

Supporting Community & Sustainability

Crystal Rig IV is a community-focused project, contributing approximately £240,000 annually to a local community benefit fund, supporting initiatives in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders, totalling over £8 million over the life of the project.

JSL’s services — including progressive turbine CCTV, AI monitoring, licensed gatemen, and public-space management — help ensure the safety and security of both the site and surrounding areas, aligning with the project’s sustainability and community objectives.

A Shared Commitment to Scotland’s Renewable Future

JSL’s involvement in Crystal Rig IV demonstrates our expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable, and technology-driven security and facilities services for large-scale renewable energy projects.

By combining progressive AI CCTV at each turbine, trained and licensed gatemen, and community-aware operations, we support the safe construction and operation of one of Scotland’s most significant wind farms, helping advance clean energy, local community benefits, and a sustainable future.
